Shotgun Stories - 2007 - Dir. Jeff Nichols
Very good first feature, i’m curious as to how well known Michael Shannon was before this movie?
only part i thought was repetitive was how people kept on saying “someone’s gotta end this” over and over again…

Mud - 2013 - Jeff Nichols
step down from Take Shelter but still good. I see a lot of people comparing this movie to Huckleberry Finn but it lacks any racial or social commentary, which is essentially what Twain was doing, so i guess they just mean that this movie also has a river in it?
I also thought there was a lot of stuff in this movie that didn’t need to be explained, and the first half ended up weaker because of that.

Frances Ha - 2013 - Noah Baumbach
I really enjoyed this, and i think it’s especially cool how someone as established as Noah Baumbach had the guts to go guerilla and shoot on the 5D while stealing a lot of the locations. I thought the final transformation was a little weak but a lot of inventive and original scenes made up for any and all holes.
GO SEE IT.

Compliance - 2012 - Craig Zobel
damn. definitely worth checking out, I’m very curious to hear what someone who didn’t know that the whole thing actually happened thought of the film, simply because its so unbelievable in the first place. The performances in this movie are pretty incredible as well.

Throne of Blood - 1957 - Dir. Akira Kurosawa
I’m on a Kurosawa binge and boy am I enjoying it. The man has an incredible eye for composition and I feel very bad about the fact that I haven’t read MacBeth…

“It’s sort of a romantic Jurassic Park. Except the dinosaurs have jetpacks.”

I just got featured on HONY! Check out more info about the film at www.chaosanddanger.com
